DOGO is a smart pet toy design for young pet dog owners, comprising a base and a toy ball. Through smart control and integrated functions, it helps solve practical problems such as lack of time to play with pets, inability to monitor pets while away from home. The design aims to help owners spend less energy accompanying their pets to play.
Pet Dogs are making noise and disturbing the owners’ rest.
Pet dogs are damaging furniture when the owners are out.
Owners are unable to accompany the pet dogs when going out.
As a young dog owner, I chose to interview people like me who also raise dogs, and summarized their concerns.
The behavioral characteristics of dogs are particularly evident in the impressions they leave on their owners and the problems they may cause. Dogs have different needs when it comes to entertainment, daily life, and interaction with people.
Most of these types of dogs are more affectionate towards humans than cats and enjoy going out. Owners of dogs need to spend more time with their pets, engaging in activities such as going for walks.
In interactions with humans or objects, the general demand action for dogs is performed with their front limbs, while interaction with toys is done with their mouths. Dogs are also very sensitive to colors in the high and low visible spectrum, like red, yellow, and blue.
Based on the expectations of young pet owners and the life and physiological characteristics of dogs, this design aims to create a type of dog toy that can distract pets and accompany them when their owners are away.
The toy ball has four pop-up devices can change its trajectory during operation to create more entertainment, users can switch between manual and automatic modes anytime through the app, also can retrieve the toy ball with just one click using the ball and base's location sensors.
DOGO uses unique panel animations as an interactive form to inform users of its current operating status. On the one hand, this caters to the preferences of the target users, i.e., young pet owners, and on the other hand, it provides a more straightforward way to understand the current situation of DOGO.
By adding a camera on the top of DOGO, users can monitor and record their pets. This set of mobile phone interfaces are designed for controlling DOGO and sharing footages to other users.
